12 month Vietnam tourist visa is a special visa type granted only for US passport holders. This is thanks to a better relation of the diplomatic issue between the two countries. Us passports of all kinds including diplomatic, official, and ordinary are all eligible for applying for a tourist visa for Vietnam valid up to one year.
How to apply for 1-year tourist visa for US passport?
US citizens planning to Vietnam need to check your passport to make sure your passport is valid for one year since the date of entry into Vietnam.
Then you complete the online application with your exact information in your passport (this is compulsory since the visa approval is granted based on your provision of information).

The whole process of getting a one-year tourist visa for US passport holders normally takes two business days. Express service can be applied for those who wish to get visa within 30 business minutes (emergency service), one business hour, two business hours, 4 business hours, or 8 business hours.
How much does it cost a 1-year tourist visa for US citizens?
To get a Vietnam tourist visa valid for 12 months, US citizens need to pay two types of visa fee: Approval fee which is USD 55, and stamping fee USD 135 (for the whole period of 12 months).
How long does one-year tourist visa allow US citizens to stay in Vietnam?
With a one-year tourist Vietnam visa, US passport holders can stay in Vietnam only 90 days for each entry. For those who wish to stay more, you can exit, and re-enter to get another seal allowing you stay in Vietnam legally.
One-year business visa for US passport
All business visa granted by the Immigration Department of Vietnam requires foreigners to have a sponsor who requests visa on their behalf. US citizens entering Vietnam for a business purpose may choose their business partner or our agent, Evietnamvisa.com to be their sponsor in getting the visa.
Unlike tourist visa, which allows only 90-day stay each entry, business visa permits US passport holders to stay as long as their visa’s valid date.
Steps to apply for a one-year business visa for US passports:

- Get visa approval letter
- Get stamped at the international airport in Vietnam (there are temporarily 5 airports)

How long can US passports stay in Vietnam with a 12-month visa?
Regarding business visa, Vietnam Immigration Department grants a visa and allow US citizens in Vietnam to stay exactly the same as the period noted in the visa. Therefore, with 12-month visa, you can stay in Vietnam up to 365 days provided that your entry date is also the starting date of your visa. You are not allowed to enter Vietnam earlier than the starting validity date. If you enter Vietnam later than the proposed date of arrival, make sure that it is still in the validity duration. Besides, you would be allowed to stay in Vietnam within the remained validity days of your visa.
Regarding tourist visa of one-year validity, US passport holders are just permitted to stay no more than 90 days for each entry. Therefore, pay due attention to this special requirements, or you would get trouble of overstaying the visa.
How long does it take to get one year Vietnam visa for the USA passport holders?
As mentioned, the standard processing time for a one-year tourist visa for US Passport is 2 business days and 3-4 business days for the business visa. Options for rush processing include: urgent processing takes one business day (8 business hours), super-urgent processing takes a half day (4 business hours), and emergency processing takes two business.

Can the 12-month visa for US passports be extended?
Yes, when US passport holders reside in Vietnam with a one-year visa, they can totally get the visa extended if they wish to stay later than the expiry date of their current visa. If you do the extension yourself with the Immigration officer at Immigration office, they may require your reasonable proof of staying longer, e.g. the itinerary of your booked tour (if you are on a tourist visa), or your business partner/organization’s sponsor.
