Hanoi, August 24, 2023 - The National Assembly of Vietnam has recently passed amendments to the "Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam." As of August 15, 2023, Vietnam officially grants a 45-day visa exemption to citizens of several countries under its latest visa policy.
Under this new regulation, citizens of unilateral visa-exempt countries will be able to stay in Vietnam for up to 45 days without the need for a visa. This move is expected to boost tourism and enhance international relations.
The countries benefiting from the unilateral visa exemption include South Korea, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Belarus.

In addition to the unilateral exemptions, Vietnam has also introduced bilateral visa exemptions for citizens of Asian countries in Southeast Asia. These countries include Brunei, Myanmar, Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Laos. Citizens of these countries are eligible for a visa-free stay of up to 30 days, regardless of their purpose of entry.
In case these passport holders plan to stay more than 30 days in Vietnam, you can consider apply for visa online to get 90 day- visa.
Under Article 10 of Decree No. 82/2015/ND-CP, individuals with Vietnamese roots, as well as those with a Vietnamese spouse, parent, or child, are eligible for a long-term visa exemption. This policy applies to foreign individuals, irrespective of nationality, who meet specific conditions. Qualified individuals will be issued a 5-year visa exemption certificate, allowing them to stay in Vietnam for up to 3 months per entry. This provision aims to encourage overseas Vietnamese and their families to reconnect with their roots and strengthen the ties between the Vietnamese diaspora and Vietnam.
