Sai Gon transit visa

Saigon airport is one of the biggest international airports in Vietnam. It welcomes thousands of international travelers per day for visiting Vietnam or just transit in Vietnam to take flight to other destinations worldwide. This article explains in details the regulations on transit visa at Saigon airport.

Sai Gon transit visa is required when foreign enter Saigon airport (Tan Son Nhat airport), and wait for the next flight to another destination. In case, if you just transit in few hours, and you only stay in transit area, you are not required to apply for Vietnam visa. In contrast, if you transit at Saigon airport in many hours or you want to go out transit area to somewhere, you are required to have Vietnam visa. In this case, you are advised to apply for visa on arrival (visa to be picked up straight away at Vietnam airport)

To apply for Vietnam visa on arrival, you just need to submit visa request online, and make payment for approval fee. After 2 to 3 working days, you can get visa approval letter which allow you to get visa stamped onto your passport at Vietnam international airport (including Noi Bai airport, Tan Son Nhat airport, and Da Nang airport).

The fee to get Vietnam visa stamped onto your passport will be charged directly by Vietnam Immigration officer. This fee should be paid in cash in USD. In some cases, Vietnam Dong is also accepted. International travelers without available cash can withdraw at ATM at Saigon airport.

Notice: in urgent cases when you forgot applying for visa beforehand and you are in rush for taking the flight, emergency visa service is recommended. With this service you can get pre-approved visa within 30 minutes to few hours. Many airlines will not board you on the plane without this pre-approved visa.
